Good point abo...@Stephen - Thanks for your comment. Good point about "place". I agree.

Look at the photo of that base camp though - do you see anything permanent about it? It's tents that can and must be moved... the "camp" is surely the people and some of the stuff they bring and do! Note that we are talking about "congregations" - groups of people - rather than "churches", which tend to be edifices.

I think the emphasis on worship is often overdone. Many members of our community get their greatest sustenance and inspiration from other events in the life of the congregation.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01248358840390936013noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-750949408338221752.post-72643375011580599282011-03-21T11:48:03.708+00:002011-03-21T11:48:03.708+00:00Metaphors do matter, that's why theology matte...Metaphors do matter, that's why theology matters, as theology is largely the art of playing with metaphors.

I still come back to the ecclesia - those called out for a reason.

I actually have a problem with the idea of the church as a "place." For me the church is the expedition, it's the people on the expedition. I would accept "worship" as being the basecamp, but "church" is the people - we're not only being church when we're at worship, we're being church Monday to Friday too. We never cease being church, if we continue to live our lives by those principles.Stephen Lingwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05785168356362616200noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-750949408338221752.post-12457330797657433422011-03-20T19:18:11.135+00:002011-03-20T19:18:11.135+00:00Base-camp - I like it!Base-camp - I like it!Judy Adamsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02986456665704994228noreply@blogger.com
